Volunteers working with the NT provide an extremely valuable resource, and are treated as an integral part of the team.
You don’t need to be super-fit, you don’t even need to have any skills, the most important quality that you will bring is a willingness to be part of a team that is helping to maintain and improve our natural heritage.
In June 2010 the National Trust in West Dorset launched the Jurassic Coastin’ project. Since then, our fully-branded campervan has been touring the Dorset Coastline (& further afield!) promoting the work of the National Trust and the importance of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site.
Staffed by our full-time recruiter, Ben Dames, we’re now looking for volunteers to go out with Ben to the many shows / festivals / events and coastal & town-centre locations. You’ll be assisting him in the day-to-day running of the project by engaging with visitors using the many tools including real fossil samples & fossil dig kit and making full use of multimedia tools by taking photographs & video.
Ben writes a daily blog at www.ntjurassiccoastin.co.uk and regularly updates the Jurassic Coastin’ Twitter, Facebook, Flickr & Vimeo feeds so we’re always promoting where we are and what we’re doing.
We try and ensure that the van is out & about as much as possible so we intersperse attendance at events with coastal car-park locations such as Portland Bill, Chesil Beach and Ringstead, with the location calendar on the blog website.
If you love chatting to people & have a passion for the Jurassic Coast and the great Outdoors, you could be one of the people we’re looking for! Have a look at the Volunteer Role Profile below - whether you can volunteer once every 6 months or once a week – please get in touch.
You may not think you have any skills that we could use, but we will find them! There are far too many tasks to list that volunteers could carry out – all you really need is enthusiasm.
